The most important feature of the Integrated River Basin Management is planning of sustainable utilization of resources, which takes under consideration balanced needs of all stakeholders acting in strictly defined geographical space of a watershed. Geosupport for IRBM offers several product lines and services which can effectively and independently contribute to general awareness of decision makers and stakeholders across a drainage basin of interest.

Surface Water Monitoring

SWM assures access to dynamic maps and water circulation-oriented statistics for area of selected watershed. Basic informational scope of the system is being built by:

  • interactive maps created on an ongoing basis based on Sentinel-1 data (all available orbits, update 2-5 days),
  • information on average precipitation and evapotranspiration for catchment (daily).

Maps base on SAR data analysis and are accessible as raw data, standardised spatial web services, as well as, as dynamic map in an environment of dedicated geoportal.

Land Cover Mapping

Land Cover Maps are spatial information resource of the highest importance for all of activities oriented on investigations and modelling of natural phenomena of human activity. LCMs are being used in hydrological and hydrodynamic modelling, and as reference and input data in the process potential soil erosion modelling, land cover changes mapping, cropping intensity mapping, ecosystems mapping or landscape analysis.

Ecosystems and Biodiversity Mapping and Monitoring

Service provides information of natural value of ecosystems. Ecosystems types map base on Land Cover Map. LCM is also used to distinguish natural and artificial ecosystems, contributing for primary production. Variability in reference grid cells of Land Cover classes of natural ecosystems, as well as cultivated land were used for determination of biodiversity. Gross Primary Production is based on MODIS satellite monitoring products.

Cropping Intensity Mapping

Analyses are concentrated on seasonal variability of NDVI values in a grid of 250m resolution. Data from satellite sensor allowing for frequent access to terrain is being applied due to possible necessity of conducting analysis in highly clouded area. The cropping intensity maps are used for the needs of support of the process of assessment of agriculture water demands.

Potential Soil Erosion and Sediment Yield Modelling

The service is oriented at modelling of potential soil erosion for watersheds and sediment yield modelling for sub-basins of selected existing and planned reservoirs. The service is enriched with determination of expected lifespan of selected reservoirs and which is applicable for assessing of long-term raw water supply safety and initial prioritization of infrastructural countermeasures against silting of reservoirs.

Coastline Changes Mapping

Elaboration of Coastline Changes Map utilizes EO data acquired by Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+ and OLI sensors. Landsat archives give unprecedented capability of reconstruction of processes transforming coastline over decades. Sentinel 2 MSI is being used as a source of current status of the coastline, which was a reference for historic coastal dynamics.
